For starters, what is Typography?
What really is typography? typography refers to the style and arrangement of the printed text/data. Typography helps make the text visually appealing to the readers. Typography includes font style, appearance of the text, color of the text and the aim of displaying emotions and conveying specific messages through them. In conclusion, typography is one of the key features of a magazine as it brings the text to to life.
Is Typography important?
The answer is very simple, yes! Typography helps the readers understand and comprehend the information etter and more clearly.
Good typography not only provides a graphic balance to the website or the magazine but also provides a strong visual heirarchy. Having a unique typography or font also builds a strong brand recognition.
And did you know that typography influences our decision making?
Neither did I, but it does! Typography has a significant effect on how the reader's perception, fonts that are brighter or more eye-catching have more impact on the readers than fonts that are weak or dull in colour. Eye catching fonts/typography can make the readers want to read your text as it captures their attention.
The contrast of your text is also just as important, as it makes your text intresting and more meaningful and also grabs people's attention. Most designers create contrast by playing around with different, colors, styles, and sizes to create more impact on the readers.
And lastly, the color of the text is also very important, getting the right colour for the text is what makes or breaks the perfect typography for a magazine/media context. The right balance of the text's colour is important- it should be the right balance of eye-catching and being clearly visible. It should be easy on the eyes and shouldn't be merging in the background.
There are sooo many different font and typography styles easily available. Some of the most commonly used are Arial, Times New Roman, Lato, Georgia, Open Sans etc. Here are some examples-
